ICT APPLICATIONS FOR INFOMATION SECURITY

Go back

Network and computer security that protects the network integrity and the data and applications that run on it is fundamental to a business’s survival. In recent years the growth of mobile applications has added to the need for security over wireless connections. Areas of opportunity include enterprise security management, intrusion detection and prevention techniques, firewall and internet security measures, antivirus, worm and trojan defences, anti-spyware, anti-phishing and anti-adware as well as trend monitoring and alarming.

Computer and network security has converged with the ability to bridge the link between the door (physical access) and the network, single-sign-on applications, computer forensics, digital signatures and certificates and PKI. All combine to provide a secure environment.

Identification management embraces how individual identification is managed across networks, the internet and supply chains such as government services. ID management is a huge growth area for converged services and is at the heart of a company’s information security strategy. Biometrics, encryption and logical access control are all areas that will be targeted, and represent opportunities for international collaboration, and are where the UK has strengths.

Secure online transactions, or e-commerce, include the need to provide a secure online environment for financial transactions and information exchange. Much of this can be achieved with the use of trusted connections, digital signatures, RFID and public key infrastructure (PKI).
